Classes for Children 7 Years and Under
Hyde Park School of Dance has a robust dance program for children under seven.
With classes in pre-ballet, tap, creative movement, African, hip hop, modern and AcroDance designed especially towards our youngest dancers, HPSD offers lots of fun ways for kids under 7 to explore the joy of movement. Starting Fall 2024, we are offer enrollment for the full 2024-2025 year, September through May (formerly split into the Fall and Winter/Spring sessions). Registration for full year classes closes on March 1, 2025.
In the Summer (Jun-Aug) months, the school offers two short 4-week sessions. It's a great time to test out different dance genres. The School also offers the “Little Dancer Weekday Workshop” a 3-week full or half-day program associated with our summer production.
On this page you'll find information about our under 7 program, including schedules and class offerings.
First Steps
for toddlers 18-36 months old, together with a parent or caregiver
First Steps is a 30 minute class that meets once a week.
In this class, parents help their toddlers explore the relationship between rhythm and movement through music-based play. Though dancers in First Steps are welcome to wear traditional dancewear to class, there is no required dress code for dancers or their cooperating adults in First Steps. Any comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement may be worn. As no street shoes are allowed in the studio, we recommend that parents and their dancers wear either ballet shoes or socks to class.
