Classes for Dancers Aged 7 & Under

First Steps

for toddlers under the age of 3 together with a parent or caregiver
First Steps is a half-hour-long class that meets once a week.

In this class, parents help their toddlers explore the relationship between rhythm and movement through music-based play. Though dancers in First Steps are welcome to wear traditional dancewear to class, there is no required dress code for dancers or their cooperating adults in First Steps. Any comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement may be worn. As no street shoes are allowed in the studio, we recommend that parents and their dancers wear either ballet shoes or socks to class.

Creative Movement

for dancers ages 3 and 4
Creative Movement is a thirty-minute-long class that meets once a week.

In Creative Movement, dancers grow their understanding of rhythm and motion through the use of playful imagery, conjuring up small herds of dancing elephants, gracefully flitting butterflies, and more. Through imitation of the characters inspiring to three- and four-year-olds, our students begin to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between music and the movement it inspires. Parents and caregivers are not permitted to join dancers in the studio for Creative Movement classes.

This graduated series of classes guides dancers aged 4 to 7 through the skills that will build a solid foundation for an education in ballet or provide a movement and musical awareness that may serve as a springboard into training in other types of dance. Parents are not permitted to join dancers in the studio for Pre-Ballet classes.

for four- and five-year-olds
In Pre-Ballet I, dancers gain a deeper sense of musical awareness as they develop introductory ballet skills such as the demi-plié, tendu, and ballet skips, walks, and runs. Dancers explore these moves in application by drawing inspiration from dancing tigers, jumping frogs, and other playful imagery.

for five- and six-year-olds
In Pre-Ballet II, ballet terminology is expanded, and dancers continue their education in rhythm and the basic moves of ballet through creative dance.

for six- and seven-year-olds
In Pre-Ballet III, students' understanding of basic ballet technique is strengthened in preparation for advancement into Ballet I. Through creative expression, dancers in Pre-Ballet III continue their development of musical awareness.

Though many boys in our program choose to take our co-ed classes, some prefer our boys-only options. Beginning at age 6, these students have the option to enroll in Boys' Dance I. This class is a fun, mixed-level option boys aged 6 to 9. Boys Dance focuses on the most athletic aspects of ballet training, engaging boys as a peer group in a fast-paced, high-energy introduction to ballet.
