Level Evaluation Classes
Level Evaluation Classes are optional free-to-attend classes for all Ballet 2+ and Modern 1+ dancers (usually ages 8-18 years) that support curriculum design and development and help Artistic leadership better determine which dancers are ready to progress to the next level. This year, we will run these classes a bit differently than in the past:
- All currently enrolled dancers in Ballet 2 and up and Modern 1 and up will be automatically enrolled in the evaluation class that corresponds to their highest level in ballet and/or modern dance.
-
Students who are new to HPSD's ballet and modern dance programs but planning to attend in the summer or fall are encouraged to attend the evaluation class in the level lower than they may attend in the fall. For example, a 9 year old student that might attend Ballet 3 in the fall, should attend the Ballet 2 level eval class since this year’s Ballet 3 students have already fully advanced in the curriculum.
- Please reach out to admin@hydeparkdance.org if you are not a current ballet or modern student but would like to attend one of these level evaluation classes.
- All ballet and/or modern dancers in these levels are encouraged, but not required, to attend the evaluation class for their current level (as of September 2025 - May 2026).
Please note: Dancers in other classes need not attend these evaluation classes as they are either automatically advanced to the next level based on age or evaluated for advancement within their weekly classes.
Dancers in Ballet 2+ and any non-Ballet level 1+ class will receive individual Level Recommendation and Feedback documents indicating their level placements for Fall 2026. These documents will be sent to families via email in June.
Dancers should check in 10-15 mins before their scheduled class start times below and be warmed up and ready to dance.
Level Evaluations in classes for ages under 7 years
Dancers in First Steps, Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet, Ballet 1, and any FUNdamentals class, will receive Certificates of Achievement indicating the level class they should attend in Fall 2026. Certificates will be passed out during the last week of classes and dress rehearsal week.
All dancers should enroll in summer classes at their current levels. Dancers who receive recommendations to advance should not do so until the fall.
