How to Find Your Way Around HPSD's Facilities

All HPSD studios and offices are located at 5650 S. Woodlawn Avenue (Chicago IL  60637) in the Pennington Center, a low brick building attached to the north side of a grey brick church building on the northwest corner of 57th & Woodlawn. Please use the main Pennington Center entrance at all times (emergency use only for other doors).

HPSD studios and offices are on the 2nd floor or basement (stairs only). Families may use first-floor restrooms and the water fountain but should treat the first floor as a throughway only and not wait for dancers there.

Studio 1 (2nd Floor Woolman Hall): From the middle stairwell, continue straight through to the end of the hallway and turn left to go upstairs to the studio waiting room area. All Studio 1 participants should exit the same way they entered unless notified otherwise. 

Studio 2 (formerly Studio B, basement level): From the middle stairwell, proceed downstairs and through the corner entranceway to arrive in the studio waiting room area. All Studio 2 participants should exit through the garden doors on either side of the studio.

Studios 3-5 (2nd Floor Pennington Center): From the middle stairwell, proceed upstairs to the corner entrance on the left to enter the 3-4-5 studio space.

• Studio 3 is the second studio to the left in the northwest corner of the building.
• Studio 4 is the studio to the right on the east side of the building.
• Studio 5 is the first studio to the left in the southwest corner of the building.

HPSD Public Office (2nd Floor): From the middle stairwell, proceed upstairs to the first door on the right.

Parking at HPSD

Street parking is available on Woodlawn, 57th St. and the other streets surrounding HPSD facilities. Most of these streets are not permit or meter parking - free of charge, first come, first serve. There is no on-site parking lot available to HPSD clients.

There are occasionally street events during the year around 57th and Woodlawn that may make parking more difficult. The annual 57th Street Art Fair and University of Chicago Convocation, both in June, often the same weekend, are two such events.

Accessibility + Stroller Storage at HPSD

There is a ramp that leads to the entrance of HPSD facilities, but apart from that, all HPSD studios, offices, and the costume shop on the second floor or in the basement of the facilities, are only accessible by stairs. There is no elevator or lift device in the stairwells. 

A designated stroller area will be available on the first floor during classes on Monday-Saturday. The location may change throughout the year, so please ask in the HPSD office if you have any questions. Please note: due to church activities, no first floor stroller or scooter parking will be available during Sunday classes.
