Teacher Training & Teacher Assisting at HPSD
Hyde Park School of Dance is committed to instructing those students who are interested in the art of teaching dance, and the program is entirely free of cost for participating dancer!
Teacher Training
As a Teacher Trainee, dancers in Ballet IV and up are paired with a mentor instructor in addition to HPSD's Artistic Director to learn the art of teaching dance.
Students are assigned to a regular pre-ballet class to observe and take part in the teaching process.
Dedicated graduates of the Teacher Training program may even have the opportunity to work as paid student faculty at HPSD, teaching their own Pre-Ballet classes!
Teacher Assisting
Students who are eager to get started but not quite ready for the Teacher Training program, or students who would like to log volunteer hours, have the option to help out as Teachers' Assistants. Teachers' Assistants help out around the studio with younger kids' classes by setting a positive example of listening and following directions, escorting dancers to the drinking fountain, taking attendance, and more. Dancers should be in Ballet IV or higher to volunteer as Teachers' Assistants.
