Entering HPSD Facilities
All HPSD studios and offices are located at 5650 S. Woodlawn Avenue (Chicago IL 60637) in the Pennington Center, a low brick building attached to the north side of a grey brick church building on the northwest corner of 57th & Woodlawn. Enter through the double doors by the long wooden ramp, check in with our Entry Attendant, and follow the signs to the middle stairwell that leads to all studios and our public office.
Checking in with our Entry Attendant: Check in with our Entry Attendant to the left in the entryway of the Pennington Center. **Do not proceed to the studio waiting room before being checked in by an entry admin.**
- HPSD Entry Attendants will be on duty 30 minutes before regularly scheduled classes and School rehearsals begin until 30 minutes after the last class or rehearsal of the day begins.
- Students, families, and volunteers must be on the rosters for the current day’s classes, rehearsals, or events, in order to proceed to the studios.
- Anyone interested in registering for full session or drop-in classes will be directed to the 2nd floor public office.
Chaperoning Students: Children under 7 years must be accompanied into and out of the studio waiting room areas by an adult or older sibling. Students older than 7 years may also be accompanied to our waiting rooms but it is not required. Due to lack of space outside of some of our studios, staying in the waiting rooms during class for a child over 7 is not encouraged unless necessary for the safety and comfort of the student.
- Student chaperons are not permitted to enter the studio without instructor permission.
Studio Entrances, Exits, & Waiting Rooms
Studio 1
Entrance: From the middle stairwell, continue straight through to the end of the hallway and turn left to go upstairs to the studio waiting room area.
Exit: All Studio 1 participants should exit the same way they entered unless notified otherwise.
Waiting Room: Students may place their belongings on an available chair. Please try to condense your belongings as much as possible. There is a hand sanitizing station and disinfectant spray and paper towels available to wipe down chairs.
Fire Exit: Proceed down the stairs from the main studio entrance and exit the building straight through the heavy wooden doors across from the stairwell.
Studio 2 (formerly Studio B)
Entrance: From the middle stairwell, proceed downstairs and through the corner entranceway to arrive in the studio waiting room area.
Exit: All Studio 2 participants should exit through the main entrance.
Waiting Room: Students may place their belongings on an available chair. Please try to condense your belongings as much as possible. There is a hand sanitizing station and disinfectant spray and paper towels available to wipe down chairs.
Fire Exit: Exit through the garden doors next to the waiting room by the studio entry doors.
Studios 3-5
Entrance: From the middle stairwell, proceed upstairs to the corner entrance on the left to enter our new studio space.
Exit: All Studio 3-5 participants should leave through the stairwell on the northeast side of the building, down and out to the first floor, through the hallway, and out through the front door.
Waiting Room Hallway: Students may place their belongings in an available cubby space and use the practice barres to warm-up for class. Please try to condense your belongings as much as possible. There is hand sanitizer and disinfectant spray and paper towels available to wipe down barres and cubby spaces.
Fire Exit: Exit through the stairwell on the northeast side of the building, down and out to the basement garden doors to exit.
Public Office
Entrance & Exit: From the middle stairwell, proceed upstairs to the first door on the right.

Personnel
- No more than 40 people should be present in each studio at a time.
- Authorized personnel include admins, teachers, teacher assistants, and dance students.
- Parents and guardians are only allowed in the studios with explicit instructor permission or as designated volunteers for specific events.
Use guidelines
- Air conditioning and fans will be on and/or windows/doors will remain open (weather permitting) throughout the day to increase air circulation in the studios.
- Do not step onto the marley floor in street shoes or socks that were worn outside of the studio.
- Do not touch the mirrors or any supplies you have not been authorized to use.
- Keep all belongings within your personal waiting room and barre spaces.
