Announcing a world-premier original story ballet in honor of HPSD's 25th Anniversary!
HPSD is proud to celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2018. As part of the celebration, we are thrilled to announce that we will add a brand-new, originally choreographed ballet to our repertory, Amira: A Chicago Cinderella Story. Amira: A Chicago Cinderella Story will premiere at the Logan Center for the Arts June 15, 16, & 17, 2018. Purchase your tickets here!
Work has been underway on this major new undertaking since Summer 2017. HPSD's production will modernizes the story but still keeps its magical fairy tale elements. Set in Hyde Park, the story centers around Amira, an immigrant who has recently arrived in Chicago, as she explores her new city, meets new friends, and attends the Masked Ball.
One additional idea incorporated into the production is in the prototype photo you see to the right: HPSD student dancer and high school senior Olivia Issa has combined her love of dance and computer science to engineer a tutu made with LED lights that react to music. This prototype appeared at our April 2017 Let's Dance! gala, and we look forward to sharing our students hard work, beautiful costumes (over 300 appear in the production!) and new show elements at the world premiere June 15 - 17.
We are raising funds to cover the first time costs of scenery, costumes, production design, and creative staffing for the production. Please consider making a Fairy Godmother or Godfather donation below, or by calling 773-493-8498, to help us underwrite the cost of our costumes for the new story ballet.
Thank you so much for your support!
