Announcing a world-premier original story ballet in honor of HPSD's 25th Anniversary!
HPSD is proud to celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2018. As part of the celebration, we are thrilled to announce that we will add a brand-new, originally choreographed ballet to our repertory, Amira: A Chicago Cinderella Story. Amira: A Chicago Cinderella Story will premiere at the Logan Center for the Arts June 15, 16, & 17, 2018.
Work is already underway on this major new undertaking. HPSD's production will modernize the story but still keep its magical fairy tale elements. Students in our 2017 Summer Program worked with HPSD's artistic team developing the story line and had brand new choreography set on them. Set in Hyde Park, the story centers around Amira, a refugee who has recently arrived in Chicago, as she explores her new city, meets new friends, and attends the Chicago Masked Ball.
One additional idea for the production is incorporated in the prototype photo you see to the right: HPSD student dancer and high school senior Olivia Issa is exploring the engineering of tutus made with LED lights which react to music. This prototype appeared at our April 2017 Let's Dance! gala, and we look forward to sharing updates on costuming, and the overall production's progress with you in the upcoming months!
To realize our new production, we need to raise funds to cover the first time costs of scenery, costumes, production design, and creative staffing. To that end, we are launching our first fundraising initiative to support costuming costs, with a goal of raising $10,000. Please consider making a Fairy Godmother or Godfather donation below, or by calling 773-493-8498, to help us underwrite the cost of our costumes for the new story ballet.
Thank you so much for your support!
