Mae Philips- Bellydance

Class Description:

Foundations of Bellydance - Bellydance has been around for hundreds if not thousands of years. Most contemporary styles of bellydance unsurprisingly share the same foundational movements. In this class we will cover the basic hip, chest and arm articulations at the very foundation of the bellydance lexicon. You will learn how to undulate, shimmy and mesmerize with targeted drills and anatomical breakdown of movements. All bodies are welcome. See you soon.

Mae the Bellydancer is a Chicago Contemporary Fusion Bellydance performer, instructor and producer. She started her bellydance journey at the tender age of 13, and 28 years later, she is the darling of the Chicago bellydance community, has performed all over the US, and produced multiple bellydance and burlesque (you can replace “burlesque” with “variety show” if it is too risque) events. She began teaching tribal fusion bellydance in 2007, and has led several bellydance troupes such as the Black Silk Road and Down Hips Down. She was the director of the long form bellydance event, the Glint. Her experience with multiple folk dances, variety shows, and fascination with object manipulation, has peppered her interpretation of bellydance with a flair for the exotic and will always captivate.
