Nutcracker '18 Volunteering Sign-Ups

Our performances are coming up, and we are looking for volunteers to help make them a success!
Read on for all of the ways you can be involved both before and during performance weekend.

Front-of-house volunteers sell and take tickets, run our will call, sell merchandise, help with crowd control, distribute programs, assist at our Nutcracker Holiday Bazaar, and much, much more! This sign-up contains duties for all public performances. You may sign-up for more than one area if you'd like! Select the area(s) in which you would like to volunteer and fill in your contact information. Sign up here!

Advanced Ticket Sales:

Tickets for the performances are on sale now! We will have ticket tables set up in our studio buildings and other select Hyde Park locations for the time slots listed below. Volunteers signing up for ticket sales shifts will check in at the HPSD office unless otherwise indicated below, where you'll be given all the items that are needed for the ticket sales table. If you are interested in selling tickets, please select shift(s) below. Volunteers assisting with Will Call preparation will help HPSD's staff accountant prepare the Will Call during Thursday, 12.13 dress rehearsal at Mandel Hall. Sign up here!

keting routes current and accurate. Sign up here!

Costume Sewing:

We need your help to bring our costumes to life! For the 2018 production, we are currently seeking volunteer stitchers. Both individuals who can operate sewing machines are needed in addition to folks who are familiar with hand sewing. In addition to the current need for stitchers (sewers), there may be additional shifts added for volunteers interested in craft-type construction projects that may involve using a hot glue gun, using spray paint on fabric, creating headpieces, etc. We may also need assistance in costume repairs, ironing, and washing prior to the performance. Learn more or sign up here!

Packing, Hauling, Sorting and Moving:

Help transport costumes, props and other items between the HPSD studio (5650 S. Woodlawn) and the performance location, Mandel Hall (1131 E 57th St). We also need volunteers to assist in the set-up and tear-down of our Nutcracker Holiday Bazaar. Learn more or sign up here!

Cast Chaperones:

Cast Chaperone volunteers assist an assigned group of dancers in several points throughout out rehearsal and performance process. They help with costume fittings, costume parades, dress/tech rehearsals, and backstage at performances to make sure their dancers are dressed in their costumes, have all the accessories and props they need, and are ready to go on stage. Volunteers in this role should be patient and enjoy working with children, as they will oversee their assigned group while they are not onstage or actively rehearsing, and remain offstage with them until all dancers have been picked up at the conclusion of the group's performance, rehearsal, or fitting. Volunteers will not be able to watch the performance(s) for which they volunteer, as they will be backstage with their assigned group. Learn more or sign up here!

As a token of our gratitude, each volunteer assisting with The Nutcracker will receive a complimentary ticket to the performance of their choice. Volunteer comps may be picked up in HPSD's office through 6 pm on December 12th.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to Cheryl Booher, HPSD's Volunteer Coordinator, at
