Every year at the end of our Summer Intensive, our students perform in a showcase featuring choreography, variations, and folk dances from the various classes they took during the four week program. Despite the challenges with studio classes and performance that the pandemic threw at our dancers - not only did they dance in masks all day, most went from taking a virtual class a couple of times a week to dancing in the studio five days a week for nearly 7 hours a day! - they rose to the occasion and were able to put on a show unlike anything HPSD has ever done before!
In addition to the hard work of our dancers, of the course of the Intensive our instructors provided training in ballet, modern, African, improvisation, hip hop, pilates, musical theater, and even parkour! Like last year, this year's showcase featured work by our alumni: choreography and classes from Amber Echols, Aislinn McGhee Hassrick, Skylar Males, Georgia Pauley, Allyson Ratliff, Anna Sawyer, Jane Sawyer, and even videography for the showcase filmed and compiled by Catherine Eng.
Despite some initial technical difficulties, the virtual showcase demonstrates the boundless creativity and dedication of the HPSD community, from teachers to students to alumni who, through good times and bad, can come home and share their knowledge and experience with dancers who were just like them!
